Toilet Repair Plumbing Problems - One of the most common and least expensive plumbing problems that almost everyone encounters at some point has to do with the toilet. Whether it is a stoppage, running toilet, leaking toilet, broken flushing mechanism, etc., toilets will fail to work in some capacity over time.
One way to check if there is a leak is to place food coloring into the tank, not the bowl, and wait a few hours. If there is a leak, and potentially a larger issue, the food coloring will turn up in the bowl or along the outer surface of the bowl and puddle at the base.
Tip - turn the supply valve off, reach into the toilet tank and inspect the flapper with your hand. If it feels rippled and not smooth its time to replace. Avoid placing chlorine products directly in the tank and replace the flapper with one that resist deterioration by chorines, electrolysis and impurities in the water. The Big Orange flapper can be purchased from the on-line store. Touch the black rubber washers around the bolts in the bottom of the tank. If they seem to fall apart in your fingers, or seem to disintegrate into the water, then they are old and will need to be replaced. Failure to do this will result in a leak onto your floor in the near future, for more helpful tips check out our Blog.
